Player of the Year Voting

Barnstormers fans, it’s again time for YOU to choose the Barnstormers Player of the Year! Cast your vote for one of the nominees below and be sure to attend the final game of the 2009 season on Sunday, Sept. 20 to find out who are this year’s Player of the Year and Barnstorming In the Community award winners!

The nominees (stats thru 8/25):

L.J. Biernbaum continues to lead the Barnstormers in tying or go-ahead RBI despite being sidelined with a neck injury. What did he do his first day back from the injury? Hit a game-winning homer in the 13th at Southern Maryland. The former Camden Riversharks star made an immediate impact in his new home, socking two home runs in a 5-2 win over the Newark Bears on Opening Night.

Released by his hometown Newark Bears earlier in the season, Gerard Haran joined the Barnstormers on the first of June and has been a steady contributor since, keeping his batting average as a Barnstormer right around .300 and his slugging percentage above .500. The stocky right-handed batter has hit some of the longer home runs in Clipper Magazine Stadium. Repeated efforts to go around or through him when he has home plate blocked have met with dismal failure.

Zack Parker came back for a third tour in Lancaster and has, except for his battle with blisters on the fingers of his left hand, pitched as well as in his previous stays with the Barnstormers. Don't be deceived by the win-loss record. Zack has been among the best pitchers in the league and recently jumped into the top five in ERA. The lefty only allowed three homers in his first 105 innings this season, incredible in the cozy ballparks of the Atlantic League.

Lloyd Turner has been Lancaster's leadoff batter most of the season and has led the league in times on base (hits+walks+HBP). He has consistently ranked among the league leaders in hits, runs, triples and walks, plus he leads the Barnstormers in stolen bases. Extremely versatile, Lloyd has started games at five different positions and has played six total.

Fresh off classes at Southern University, Michael Woods returned to the Barnstormers in May and has once again been a steady contributor, both with his bat and with the amount of ground he covers in center field. He has reached double figures in homers and stolen bases for the third season in a row and has been fighting his way back to the .300 mark since being moved into the leadoff spot in the batting order.

Jason Scobie struggled early this year, but his resurgence has kept Lancaster in the playoff hunt in the second half. Through September 1, He had thrown seven consecutive quality starts and nine overall since the mid-season break. The former Class AAA All-Star has a club best 2.06 ERA in the second half and has not given up more than two runs in any of his last eight starts (thru September 1).
